6 Beauty Products to Try in the New Year

Here we are in the middle of January; Where Winter seems like it will go on forever and Spring seems likes its so far away. Here in Detroit, its been too cold to do much of anything lately. So, I've been spending a lot of time in the house researching beauty products. I didn't make one of those 'New Year, New Me' resolutions. However, I did decide to be a better me this year. A few weeks ago, I discussed how I wanted to update my wardrobe and choose better shopping habits. Today, I want to share with you how I have updated my beauty regimen.

Bella Beauty Sponge

First, let me start by saying that it is no secret that I am not the make-up expert. If you're looking for one, go on YouTube because she (me) is just as lost as you. However, I have been practicing more and wanted to try one of those blending sponges I see everyone talking about. I bought one from the drugstore for $6 and honestly had no clue what I was doing. I decided to take another stab at it and got my hands on this Bella Beauty sponge (thanks mom). What I like about this one is that it has a handle on it vs ones that are sponge only. I did learn (from YouTube) that you should apply your foundation first with a normal brush applicator, then dampen the sponge and use it to blend. The Bella Beauty sponge works perfectly for blending foundation more evenly. You can find this at TJ Maxx for $4.99

Smashbox Bing Matte Lip (Ulta $21)

In my attempt to be more of a grown-up, I went to Ulta in search of a new red lipstick. I have plenty of red lipsticks on my counter, but I don't think they were the right red for me. I was in search of one that was not too dark, not too orange and with a matte finish. I tried a less expensive color out in store and was all ready to settle for it when I wandered over to the "prestige" side of Ulta and found this Smashbox option. I wasn't too pleased with the $21 price tag (I'm cheap sometimes) but I couldn't resist. It's just what I was looking for and the color was visibly richer than the less expensive brand I was going to settle for. Moral of the story, get what you want; even if it's a little more than what you're used to spending. It's better to be satisfied than settle.

Her Dream Hair Vegan Stimulating Growth Oil

Malika has been doing my hair for about two years now and she's the best. I never tell her what to do with my hair and I never check in the mirror when she's done. She just does what she thinks is best and I trust her enough to know that it'll be bomb when I get out the chair. On top of being bouncy and healthy, my hair always smells amazing and has been growing consistently. I'm so happy that she decided to bottle up her mixture of essential oils so that I can continue to use it in between my appointments. Currently, I have a custom u-part wig installed (and made by Malika) that I plan on wearing until March. In an effort to maintain my hair underneath, I've been applying the oil every other day to my scalp and edges at night. I can't wait to see the results!

CeraVe' AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion

I don't know about you, but the weather is taking a toll on my skin. Like, there's not enough moisturizer in a day that can keep you when it's below freezing outside. I used to hate moisturizers because they always made my face oil by the end of the day. I picked this product up two weeks ago and I think it's the only moisturizer I'll use from now on. It has a very light and tolerable smell and you only need maybe two pumps to cover your face completely. I'm considering purchasing the PM moisturizer to apply at night. Have you tried this brand before? Let me know your thoughts.

Pixi Skintreats Glow Tonic

In an effort to even out my skin tone and get that glow everyone on Instagram has. I researched so many products and read countless reviews. I came across the brand on Target's website and almost scrolled past it because I had never heard of it. Then, I read the reviews (all positive) and I was convinced I needed to try it. I went to Target that night -no time to wait on shipping and handling. I've been using it for about two weeks and I can see a slight difference. After cleaning your face, apply a small amount to a cotton ball and apply to your face and neck twice a day. I've used almost half the bottle and my skin is definitely brighter. My plan is to use the entire bottle and share the results. However, I'm pretty sure I'll be re-purchasing this product.

Palmer's Skin Success Anti-Dark Spot Cream

For some reason, I always breakout on the right side of my face near my cheek. I think I need to do a better job of cleaning and disinfecting my cell phone. Anyway, these slight dark marks are killing my selfies and I needed to do something about it. Previously, I was using Aveeno Targeted Tone Corrector and it kinda worked but I wanted to try something different. So, I've been using this for almost two and a half weeks. I surely can see a difference. I started using this after I clean my face and apply the glow tonic and before I apply the moisturizer.
